These are the places that inspired Thornwood scenarios. I love to explore secluded places and usually I take my notebook and pen because good ideas always come to mind!
1. Malahide Castle
This castle in Ireland dates back to the 12th century inspired the exterior and the landscape for Thornwood school. It’s not a huge castle (c’mon, we’ve seen bigger), but it is perfect to imagine a secluded place to put rich kids to study. It is a parent’s safety dream castle… apparently.
2. Catacombs of Paris
Yes, I love some creepy places and the Catacombs of Paris seemed carved out from a dream to kids to explore Thornwood’s underground. Let’s face it, the structures, the history and all the skulls and bones are perfect for a midnight truth and dare!
3. French Country House
I imagine Annabelle had a very lonely childhood, being protected from all sides since her best friend disappeared. She does have a title and she is supposed to marry the future king of her country, but she had cozy and friendly place to grow up, surrounded by nature and homemade food.
4. Leigh's Cabin
A small log cabin from the 18th century is how I see Leigh's place, but with modern facilities (we need a bathroom and a sink, right?), but absolutely no electricity. During summer vacations after the book ends Leigh has some issues adapting to this life and we will see in the books that will follow.
5. Girls' Dorm.
This is how I picture the perfect princess dorm for girls. Light colors, comfortable chairs and, of course, maids and surveillance cameras everywhere so they will be constantly watched.
