Top Five Inspiring Heroes

I always said Thornwood is a pre-hero book. This is those times when in their teens the protagonist is developing his personality, learning that he has powers and the great responsibility that comes with it.

Here are the heroes that inspired me:

1. Captain America

Before Chris Evans, I was a big a fan of Captain America (of course, with an eye-candy actor, things escalated to fangirling) because no matter how big the problem was, he was always truthful and he did the right thing, no matter if it wasn’t what he wanted.

2. Danny Phantom

It may come to surprise to many of you, but yes, I am a big fan of cartoons and I think Danny Phantom had a big potential with troubled teen and raising ghost-powers. He was a big inspiration to write Leigh because Danny keeps his secrets and there are things he can only figure out by himself, even if he has great friends to support him.

3. Loki

The anti-hero of the list! What I love about Loki is how he slowly develops from a shallow villain to someone who is self-aware of his faults. This is something we need to see more often because usually heroes are flawless characters, but voilà, I love to see some mischievous plan can turn out to be a great lesson.

4. Howl

From Howl’s Moving Castle. I wouldn’t call Howl a hero, but a vain wizard who cares about looking handsome to the point of throwing a tantrum like a spoiled child. He is one big coward even if he is very powerful and until he meets Sophie he takes his time to charm girls around. When Leigh starts to understand his powers can get girls’ attention, I do admit Howl was one big inspiration.

5. Luke Skywalker

Did I mention I’m a geek? Of course Luke had to be on the list, first because his journey is so perfectly tied to the Hero’s Journey and because he slowly grows to be confident with his Jedi Powers. Totally Inspiring!
